Cedar Door

The soft serve heard 'round Austin.

How a trend signal became Austin's first soft-serve margarita, a signature revenue driver, and an expandable content platform.

CHALLENGE

Cedar Door is an Austin institution with more than five decades of history and a claim to the original Mexican Martini. The opportunity was to create a modern product moment that felt social-first and surprising without turning the brand into a gimmick.

INSIGHT

The strongest hospitality trends do more than look good on camera. They combine a familiar emotional cue with an unfamiliar format. Soft serve brought nostalgia and movement; the margarita brought Cedar Door's existing authority. Together, the concept could feel new and unmistakably theirs.

Turn the cocktail into the content engine. Launch a boozy soft-serve margarita as a highly visual signature, build urgency through social and creator discovery, then extend the format through new flavors and cultural moments.

BIG IDEA

Trend identification and first-to-market Austin positioning. Campaign strategy, messaging, content direction, photography, video, food and drink styling, and platform rollout. Influencer invitations, hosted visits, UGC planning, email, and PR support. Cross-functional coordination and new workflows to help the team execute during high-volume demand. Follow-on creative for espresso martini, Pride, and UT football-season variations.

ROLE

1. Tease the format before revealing the full product so the audience has a reason to follow the clues.

2. Launch with a tactile hero asset: swirl, texture, garnish, handoff, and the first taste.

3. Seed the product with local creators and equip them with the Austin-origin story, not a rigid script.

4. Reinforce demand with press, email, customer reactions, and operational consistency.

5. Treat the machine as a platform for recurring seasonal drops rather than a one-post novelty.

RESULTS

Approximately $20,000 in sales during the first week and approximately $60,000 by week five. A 1,800% increase in engagement within one week of the viral launch. The format became an ongoing campaign platform with additional flavors and cultural moments. Espresso-martini soft-serve content later generated approximately 75,000 views, 2,000 likes, and 2,000 shares in under 24 hours.
